School laboratory promotes interest in STEM through a wide range of educational offerings
Important contribution to promoting young talent and strengthening Switzerland as a centre of science
“We are delighted that the school laboratory's wide range of educational offerings has been so well received,” says Serge Corpataux, Head Talent Attraction Roche Basel Apprentices. “This enables us to make a decisive contribution to promoting young talent and enthusiasm for STEM professions, which are essential for the future of our company and Switzerland as a research and business location.”
The Experio Roche school laboratory offers around 120 workshops per year for school classes (from Year 4 to secondary level) in the fields of computer science, natural sciences and technology. The programme also includes the myTalents career choice course, which supports pupils in their career orientation. The programme is supplemented by further training for teachers and courses for parents and their children. Particularly noteworthy are the MINT-Girls@Roche workshops, which, under the guidance of experts, specifically aim to inspire girls to pursue STEM careers and break down gender-specific reservations.
The majority of visitors come from the region: around 80% come from northern Switzerland, a further 10% from the rest of Switzerland and just under 10% from southern Germany.
The school laboratory is also a central interface for vocational training at Roche and an important pillar for securing young talent. Around 30% of trainees at Roche have visited the school laboratory at least once before. Roche trains around 300 apprentices in 17 future-oriented professions at its Basel/Kaiseraugst site every year. Roche has a long tradition of vocational training dating back almost 70 years. Since 1957, over 4,300 skilled workers have been trained.
