Sustainability

For over 120 years Roche has been committed to improving lives. Our commitment goes far beyond the development of innovative diagnostics and therapeutics. The long-term thinking of our founders has allowed us to stay true to this vision. Our greatest contribution to society is lasting innovation. When acting sustainably, we also aim to provide a rewarding workplace, be a trustworthy partner and engage in the communities we work in and with.

We meet our responsibility to people, society and the environment with various national, regional and local projects and initiatives.

Innovations for patients

Our most important contribution to society is the development of medicines and diagnostics that significantly improve people's lives. Together with our partners, we therefore aim to steadily and sustainably break down barriers that restrict or even prevent access to our products. The company's headquarters in Basel and Kaiseraugst cover the entire value chain: From research and development to production, shipping and marketing.

An inspiring working environment

Innovation happens where people come together and share ideas. Roche offers a diverse work environment for many different professions, giving our employees the opportunity to develop, train and follow their interests. At our sites in Switzerland, we create a working environment that encourages collaboration and inspires our employees to fulfill their personal potential.

Environmental protection and community involvement

At Roche, we have been committed to climate and environmental protection for many years by seeking new, more sustainable technologies and processes and managing our company premises in harmony with the environment wherever possible. We also have a tradition of community involvement. We support innovative projects that serve local people and society as a whole.

A trustworthy partner

In order for us to continue to grow and create sustainable value, open and constructive dialogue with our stakeholders is essential. This helps us to better understand the individual needs of patients, nursing staff and doctors. Through our actions, we always want to create value for the company as well as for society.

The Roche Children's Walk represents the commitment of Roche employees around the world. The employee donations are doubled by Roche at the end and go towards projects to support disadvantaged children in countries where Roche is represented or in developing countries such as Malawi, Ethiopia and the Philippines.
We support the Schweizer Jugend forscht Foundation as well as SimplyScience and the Faszination Technik programme of the Zug Cantonal Chamber of Commerce. We also make an important contribution to promoting science and young talent with offers such as the Postdoc Fellowship Programme.
Physical limitations should not be a barrier to joy and adventure. The Just for Smiles Foundation enables children and young people with mobility impairments to access outdoor activities such as sailing, skiing, or hiking. These moments strengthen mental health, which has been proven to have a positive impact on physical condition. In this way, the foundation provides freedom that mobilizes both body and mind.
On the occasion of the company's 125th anniversary, Roche gifted the ARTour app to the city of Basel. The ARTour makes it possible to experience the parallels between innovation in art and in science.
Health literacy and self-confidence are the foundation for growing up strong. With the Tara & Pips project, the association Verein Kinderstark promotes the early resilience and psychological well-being of children. Through playful audio and print formats, children lose their fear of medical appointments and learn to better understand themselves and their own emotions. This preventive strengthening of self-efficacy is a decisive building block for a healthy and self-determined future.
