Volunteering Week in Rotkreuz: Volunteers brave the weather for a good cause
Part of series
In early summer, the Roche Diagnostics International (RDI) Volunteering Week took place for the third time. For a week, Roche employees in Rotkreuz had the opportunity to support regional non-profit institutions during their business hours. This was an important commitment for Roche that relieves the burden on non-profit organisations and allows Roche colleagues to take on exciting and varied work - a win-win situation!
Around 65 volunteers took part in the program, supporting various social and environmental projects in the greater Zug-Zürich region. Although rain and mud were the order of the day this year, volunteers experienced a range of varied work assignments at non-profit institutions.
Activities included planting trees and building protective fences in the Buchenegg state forest; tree maintenance in the Affoltern am Albis forest district; removing invasive non-native plants in conservation areas at Agrofutura in Rotkreuz; distributing food to the needy at Incontro in Zürich; and an entertaining afternoon of bingo at the dementia ward of the Sandbühl nursing home in Schlieren.
The employees were not only able to broaden their own horizons and experience a varied working day, but also able to get to know fellow Roche colleagues. What's more, the outdoors excursion was a refreshing change from usual workaday life, even despite the rain. The most important thing, however, was the specific support offered to the regional non-profit organisations through the work. A warm thank you to all those who defied the weather and worked so tirelessly.
