At Pharma Research & Early Development (pRED) in Basel we are more than 1800 dedicated scientists, clinicians, engineers and technicians from almost 60 nations, sharing the passion for developing and bringing new and effective medical solutions to patients. World-class science and talents are combined to drive medical innovation.
At the Basel site, employees work in the fields of oncology, neuroscience and rare diseases, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, immunology, infectious diseases and ophthalmology joined by colleagues from research & clinical operations, research informatics, and our strategy group. Also based in Basel are our development groups which represent the range of expertise needed to run clinical trials, including clinical research and exploratory development, clinical science, safety science, and regulatory affairs.
In 2024, pRED moved into its new home: the new pRED Center Basel. This world-class research hub brings our scientists together under one roof, enabling faster innovation and stronger collaboration to benefit patients everywhere.

Institute of Human Biology
The Roche Innovation Center Basel is also home of The Institute of Human Biology (IHB), dedicated to research on human biology and human model systems such as organoids. Roche Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) established the IHB to take maximum advantage of the scientific and research expertise in both academia and the pharmaceutical industry, it will bring them closer together using human model systems to better predict a drug’s validity, and so translate pioneering science into breakthroughs for patients.
