This year's ‘bike to work’ challenge at Roche in Rotkreuz was a resounding success. With a record number of 398 participants covering a total of over 163,000 kilometres, the event not only sent out a strong signal for sustainability, but also raised a significant donation for the community of Blatten in Valais, which was affected by a landslide.
The ‘bike to work’ campaign, Switzerland's largest bicycle promotion initiative, continues to enjoy unbroken popularity at Roche in Rotkreuz. As sustainability is an integral part of Roche's strategy, we took once again part as a company. Numerous employees left their cars at home and switched to bicycles for their commute to work.
An impressive result in figures
Participation in 2025 exceeded expectations and set new standards. A total of 398 employees in 100 teams took part in the campaign. Together, they covered a distance of 163,600 kilometres. This achievement also has a direct positive impact on the environment. By not driving, around 23,562 kilograms of CO2 were saved.

Every kilometre counts: solidarity with the municipality of Blatten
This year, the employees' commitment also had an important social component. Every kilometre cycled contributed to a donation for the municipality of Blatten in the Lötschental (Valais). The municipality has been severely affected by the consequences of a massive landslide and is struggling with considerable damage to property. The donation will help the municipality with its reconstruction efforts.
More than just kilometres: team spirit and community in action
In addition to the sporting and environmental aspects, social interaction was also a key focus of the bike to work initiative. The event kicked off with a joint breakfast, where the teams had the opportunity to get to know each other and get in the mood for the weeks ahead. The challenge was rounded off with a dinner to celebrate everyone's achievements.
There is already great anticipation for next year, as 2026 will mark Roche's 20th anniversary of participating in ‘bike to work’.
